The ANC in eThekwini is calling for swift justice after long-serving councillor Sibusiso Khwela was murdered in Klaarwater.
The ANC in the eThekwini region is demanding answers, following the murder of councillor Sibusiso Khwela in Klaarwater, west of Durban.
Khwela, one of the longest-serving ANC councillors in the municipality, has been remembered as a public servant who worked hard for his community.
Police have launched a manhunt for the gunman, while the ANC's called for those responsible to be arrested as soon as possible.
"The ANC is very saddened to have lost one of the most hardworking councillors in the municipality who has served this community for a long time," says
ANC eThekwini regional coordinator Thanduxolo Sabelo says councillor Khwela's death is a great loss, not only for the party but the community he served for many years.
He says, with the Political Killings Task Team now roped in to investigate, the ANC is hopeful those responsible will be brought to justice.
"We have full confidence in them, we are very happy that they are now involved with the case because we’ve seen their hard work, we've seen them resolve difficult cases."
He says the attack is particularly concerning because the slain councillor was not among the ANC candidates set to contest the upcoming local government elections.
