Government officials, including Premier Thamsanqa Ntuli and Acting Provincial Commissioner Phumelele Makoba, visited the family of the murdered councillor in Klaarwater on Tuesday, Thamsanqa Ntuli,

The KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) provincial government says police are making the investigation into the murder of eThekwini councillor Sibusiso Khwela a top priority.

Premier Thamsanqa Ntuli has added that the team is following up on several leads.

Government officials, including Ntuli and Acting Provincial Commissioner Phumelele Makoba, visited the family of the late councillor in Klaarwater on Tuesday.

Ntuli says investigators are working tirelessly to catch those responsible.

" We also wanted to give an assurance that the police are following up [on] information which may be critical at this stage. Though there is no conclusive direction, they are following up on a matter, as the case has been taken over by the PKTT (Political Killings Task Team)," says Ntuli.

Khwela, who was shot and killed at his office last week, has been largely described as a hard-working councillor who served some of the communities in the south-west of Durban.

Ntuli has also expressed confidence in the team, saying a breakthrough is imminent.

"We're on record, in fact, acknowledging the work of the PKTT, and we're hopeful that they are going to actually help us to know who has done this."
