Businesses and residents in parts of western, central and southern eThekwini will face a 48-hour planned reduction in bulk water supply from Wednesday, 12 August. Repairs to the Southern Aqueduct will affect parts of Queensburgh, Malvern, Chatsworth, Shallcross, Umlazi, Folweni, eNzimini and Clearwater.
Businesses and residents in parts of the western, central and southern regions of eThekwini have to brace themselves for a 48-hour planned reduction in bulk water supply.
The reduction will take effect from Wednesday 12 August at 8 am until Friday 14 August .
The eThekwini Municipality's Water Operations Department will temporarily shut down an existing one thousand two hundred millimeter pre-stressed pipeline on the Southern Aqueduct to allow contractors to carry out sectional repair work.
The repairs will take place at the intersection of Perth Road and High Wycombe Road in Westville as part of preparations for the new Southern Aqueduct pipeline upgrade project.
Affected areas include parts of Queensburgh, Malvern, Chatsworth, Shallcross, Umlazi, Folweni, eNzimini, Clearwater, and surrounding areas.
The city says some reservoir outlets may be temporarily closed to preserve water and reduce recovery times once the bulk supply is restored, depending on water demand and available storage.
Residents in affected communities are being urged to use water sparingly during the planned reduction as the city monitors reservoir levels.
