Wiocc lands $300-million from Saudi and African backers
Wiocc secures major investment for expansion of data infrastructure across Africa.
The Full Story
Wiocc Group has successfully secured a remarkable $300-million investment from the Africa Finance Corporation and Saudi Arabia’s Vision International Investment Company. This deal marks the largest capital raise in Wiocc's history, signed during the Leap technology exhibition in Riyadh. The funds, translating to approximately R4.8-billion, will primarily be allocated towards advancing data centre deployment and consolidation, as well as expanding the company’s open-access terrestrial fibre network and investing in new subsea cable assets.
This investment surpasses Wiocc’s previous fundraising achievements, including a $200-million round in 2022 and over $400-million across multiple rounds in 2025. The stark size of this single investment highlights the growing confidence in Wiocc's strategic vision for the digital infrastructure sector in Africa. Group CEO Chris Wood stated, "Africa is uniquely positioned to capitalise on the next phase of global digital growth," emphasizing how this investment will facilitate Wiocc's long-term growth strategy.
Wiocc’s South African operations, particularly through Open Access Data Centres, have expanded significantly after acquiring seven NTT Data facilities in late 2025. This acquisition alone added over 25MW of capacity to its network in key locations like Bloemfontein, Cape Town, and Johannesburg. With a firm commitment to maintaining progress in the digital infrastructure landscape, Wiocc is set to enhance its assets through this latest influx of capital.
The African digital infrastructure market remains competitive, with various players investing heavily to capture market share. Companies like Teraco and Vantage Data Centers have made substantial investments, bolstering pressures and expectations for companies like Wiocc to innovate and adapt. The recent investment places Wiocc in a strong position as it moves to consolidate its data centre operations while simultaneously expanding its fibre and subsea capabilities.
Although details on the exact equity stakes involved in this latest agreement remain undisclosed, Wiocc continues to forge a path as a central player in the continent’s digital evolution. The backing from both Saudi Vision and the Africa Finance Corporation signifies a pivotal moment for the company, potentially enabling it to accelerate its strategic plans while also addressing the digital divide across Africa. The Africa Finance Corporation, a multilateral development financier founded in 2007, has consistently aimed to boost investment in critical sectors across multiple African countries.
Vision Invest has previously focused its portfolio on power generation and logistics, with its African ventures slowly beginning to materialize over the years. As digital growth accelerates, Wiocc is poised to play an essential role in shaping the future of connectivity in Africa. This substantial investment is not only a significant vote of confidence but also a clear signal of the accelerating need for improved digital infrastructure across the continent. In the likely event of subsequent efforts to secure additional partnerships and investments, Wiocc's approach will benefit the larger data ecosystem in Africa, which is crucial for its economic progress.

This investment by Wiocc indicates a significant leap towards improving digital infrastructure in Africa, essential for economic growth and connectivity across the continent. Enhanced data capacity is crucial in keeping Africa competitive in the global digital landscape.

Wiocc plans to utilize the new funding for immediate deployment of data centres and expansion of its fibre and subsea cable assets, continuing its strategy to consolidate and enhance digital infrastructure in Africa over the coming years, optimizing resources and investments.
