Police have arrested two more people in connection with Mbatha's killing, bringing the number of suspects taken in so far to three.
There has been a breakthrough in the murder case of Community Policing Forum (CPF) member Bonginkosi Mbatha in northern KwaZulu-Natal.
Police have arrested two more people in connection with the killing, bringing the number of suspects taken in so far to three.
Mbatha, from the Sizana area in Ceza, was gunned down in Ulundi in May.
A 25-year-old suspect was the first to be taken into custody.
Police spokesperson Thenjiswa Ngcobo says firearms and ammunition were recovered during the arrests on Tuesday.
“The first suspect was arrested at the Hlobane area where he had allegedly visited his girlfriend. He led the police to the KwaMnyathi area where a firearm and ammunition were hidden. Further investigations led to the arrest of the second suspect at his hideout spot in Ulundi,” says Ngcobo.
Ngcobo says the pair may face additional charges as investigations continue.
"The investigation into the murder of Mr Mbatha is continuing, and further charges may be added as the investigation progresses. The recovered firearms are subject to ballistic testing to determine if they are linked to any criminal activities."
