An Amazon-branded cargo plane tragically overran a runway at Miami International Airport on Sunday, leading to the deaths of five individuals and injuring five others. The Boeing 767-300, operating under 21 Air’s contract for Amazon Prime Air, was landing from San Juan, Puerto Rico, when it struck multiple vehicles after leaving the runway at around 14:00 local time. Upon overrunning the runway, the aircraft crossed a road, collided with vehicles near the 2100 block of Northwest 42nd Avenue, and ultimately came to rest in a nearby field engulfed in flames with heavy smoke billowing into the sky.
Emergency services responded rapidly, with more than 60 Miami-Dade Fire Rescue units and approximately 200 personnel deployed to the scene. Rescuers worked diligently to free victims trapped in the struck vehicles, with one requiring specialized extrication.
