Two people were injured in the Thursday morning collision, which involved three vehicles.

Three people have lost their lives in a crash on the N2 between KwaMbonambi and Mtubatuba in northern KZN.

Road Traffic Inspectorate spokesperson, Sindi Msimang says two others were injured in the Thursday morning collision, which involved three vehicles.

"It is alleged that the light motor vehicle was overtaking [another car] travelling on the northbound [side]. The LMV then collided with the HMV, the breakdown motor vehicle, which was travelling on the southbound [lane], resulting in the light motor vehicle losing control."

She says one person remains entrapped in the wreckage.

"Services are still working on scene just to make sure that they take out the one person that is currently entrapped in the motor vehicle."

She has urged motorists to avoid reckless overtaking, use headlights when visibility is poor, and obey the rules of the road.
