Pitso Mosimane is set to succeed Belgian Hugo Bross as coach of South Africa, the national football association announced on Saturday.
The South African Football Association has announced that it's National Executive Committee is backing Pitso Mosimane to take over the reigns from Hugo Broos as Bafana Bafana coach.
The decision follows an NEC meeting at SAFA House on Saturday.
In a statement, SAFA president Danny Jordaan said the formal announcement will be made next week.
“The NEC has approved the appointment of coach Pitso to Bafana Bafana, but we still need to tie up some loose ends. We will make a formal announcement of the coach next week”.
Pitso's appointment comes on the back of the team's historic performance at the FIFA World Cup, where the country qualified for the second round of the tournament for the first time ever.
It's not his first time as head coach of the national team. He was appointed in the position in 2010, but a shadow was cast over his leadership in the 2012 African Cup of Nations. In the final qualifier against Sierra Leone, he mistakenly played for a draw in the final qualifying game when the team actually needed a win.
While this mistakes still lives on in some supporter's minds, the president of the South African Football Academy, Farouk Khan, told the SABC Mosimane gained valuable experience over the last decade.
"He's coached some of the best players and clubs, like Mamelodi Sundowns aa well as Al-Ahli," he said. "It's something we as South Africans should embrace, and we must support coach Pitso Masimane in ensuring he builds on the success that Hugo Broos made."
taking into consideration the calls for a South African coach, Khan believes Mosimane understand local football culture, and will add a great deal of value in the national team's journey.
