Former Mamelodi Sundowns mentor Manqoba Mngqithi has won his first major trophy with new club Yanga SC in Tanzania.
Mnqithi recently left the South African shores for Yanga SC following his departure from Golden Arrows.
MNGQITHI BEATS BARKER TO COMMUNITY SHIELD CUP
Now, having assembled a new technical team and bringing in new players, including Peter Shalulile, this was expected to be a scrappy affair.
On the flip side of it, Yanga went into the encounter as favourites given their head-to-head against Simba SC in recent seasons.
Simba SC appeared to be struggling with Yanga’s pace in the first half, and perhaps it is for this reason they found themselves on the backfoot in the 34th minute.
Zambia international Albert Kangwanda gave Yanga the lead, and that goal proved to be the winner as it eventually secured them the Community Shield trophy.
Mngqithi will now aim to build on this early success, and hope to deliver more trophies to Yanga, especially the league title.
With the CAF Champions League season on the horizon, Mngqithi understands the importance of doing well in the competition.
