Mariah Carey has given fans a rare glimpse into the creative process behind her iconic 'Daydream' album, sharing old writing-session recordings from 1994 and 1995.
Legendary singer Mariah Carey has given fans a glimpse into the writing process behind some of her biggest hits, sharing rare audio clips from the sessions that went into making her iconic 'Daydream' album.
Carey recently celebrated the 30th anniversary of 'Daydream' with the release of 'Daydream 30', in July. The new album features new music.
Over the weekend, the singer took fans even further back, sharing soundbites from the original 'Daydream writing sessions recorded years ago.
In an Instagram post, Carey shared a picture of a digital audio tape containing written ideas and recordings from the sessions. One of the tapes was dated 07/26/94 and in the audio, fans can hear Carey working through ideas that would eventually become part of her music.
A second tape was dated 01/ 04/ 95 and Carey also shared audio from that session, giving fans an intimate look at how she put together lyrics and melodies.
“Had to share a few more sound bites from the Daydream writing sessions with ya! Funny to think how it all started,” she wrote in the caption.
In the recordings, Carey can be heard working through lyrics and melodies as she develops the songs. For fans, the recordings offered a rare glimpse into the creative process behind music that would go on to become some of her most celebrated work.
The post received more than 100,000 likes, with fans and fellow musicians praising Carey for opening up about her songwriting process.
Musician SZA commented, “omg my queen,” while Craig David wrote, “Love these Mariah❤️ The process is really where all the magic lives.”
Another commenter, Tyler Parx, wrote: “When the girlies were actually writing the songssss and not just saying they were!! Iconic!!”
Many more comments followed, with fans appreciating Carey for allowing them to see what went into creating the music they have loved for decades.
Last week, Carey shared a short video of the 'Daydream' writing sessions."Love reading all your comments about the Daydream writing sessions! It was so fun rediscovering these moments, and I'm so happy I get to share them with you, even the silly ones!" she wrote.

Over the weekend, Carey also shared a moment of herself performing with Boyz II Men at Madison Square Garden, where they sang 'One Sweet Day, one of the memorable songs associated with the Daydream era.
She also thanked fans who have supported the anniversary release.
Carey rose to fame in the 1990s and has since established herself as one of the most influential voices in music. She is famously known as the 'Songbird Supreme', a nickname that reflects her extraordinary vocal range and distinctive voice.
