The investigation began when Border Police inspected a shipping container at the Port of Durban, resulting in a major seizure of counterfeit goods.
A 41-year-old man is expected to appear in court next month in connection with the seizure of counterfeit branded goods worth more than R44 million.
The Hawks say their investigation began after Border Police stopped and inspected a shipping container at the Port of Durban in February.
Following further investigations, officers carried out a search and seizure operation last month, confiscating suspected counterfeit goods.
The Hawks' Sbu Ncane says samples were sent to brand experts, who confirmed the items were fake.
“It was confirmed that Nike, Adidas (and) Lacoste sneakers products worth an estimated street value of R44 481 900 were counterfeit. On Sunday, 2 August 2026, the suspect was then served with a summons to appear before the Durban Magistrate Court on 3 September 2026.”
