JOHANNESBURG - A R5.9-million trip to Venezuela has landed Gauteng Speaker Morakane Mosupyoe in hot water.
The DA has launched a censure motion, accusing a 13-member delegation of wasting taxpayers' money on a trip in November.
With the province drowning in service delivery backlogs, the opposition party says spending millions on overseas travel proves the government has its priorities wrong.
Efforts to get a response from Mosupyoe were unsuccessful.
But in a response to questions by the DA in February, Mosupyoe defended the trip, saying it had official government approval and improved international relations.
A date for the motion to be debated is yet to be decided.
