All three Gauteng Metros, Ekurhuleni, Johannesburg and Tshwane, have urged motorists and residents to be vigilant amid cold and wet conditions.
The City of Ekurhuleni announced that it had responded to three road incidents by midday on Tuesday, with a vehicle overturning.
Ekurhuleni emergency services spokesperson, Thabiso Makgato, said injuries were sustained.
All three metros advised residents against using fuel-burning heating in enclosed or poorly ventilated spaces.
Tshwane Emergency Medical Services spokesperson, Nana Radebe-Kgiba, advised that parents and caregivers keep children away from heating appliances, and to ensure that candles, heaters and ignition sources were left unattended.
"The cold and dry winter conditions, combined with windy weather, can increase the risk of fires spreading rapidly, particularly in areas with dry grass and vegetation," said Nana Radebe-Kgiba.
"Emergency Services calls on residents to avoid activities that could unintentionally start grass fires."
She said not to start fires in open areas, to burn rubbish or garden waste during windy conditions, or to discard cigarette butts onto dry grass.
Radebe-Kgiba said in the case of a fire, do not attempt to fight a fire which is beyond your control.
Rather, evacuate to a safe location and alert emergency services.
