National Coloured Congress leader Fadiel Adams is unlikely to testify before the Madlanga Commission on Tuesday, after his sworn affidavit and supporting documents were submitted late. Evidence leaders are expected to request a postponement to study the material before Adams gives evidence.
Fadiel Adams is unlikely to testify before the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry on Tuesday, despite being subpoenaed to give evidence.
The commission says its evidence leaders only received his sworn affidavit and supporting documents after 21:00 on Monday.
The inquiry's spokesperson Jeremy Michaels has issued a statement on the National Coloured Congress leader's late submission.
"Given the significant public interest in the appearance of Mr Fadiel Adams before the Madlanga Commission, we deem it appropriate to inform the public that whilst Mr Adams is scheduled to appear under subpoena this morning [Tuesday], he is unlikely to testify [on Tuesday]."
Michaels explained evidence leaders are expected to request a postponement, which would allow them more time to study the sworn affidavit and related annexures, before Adams testifies.
Adams was expected to address his involvement in the Investigating Directorate Against Corruption's (IDAC) controversial probe into alleged corruption within Crime Intelligence.
The subpoena comes days after Adams was suspended from Parliament for 20 days, with effect from 3 August.
The Section 89 Impeachment Committee was informed of the suspension on last week but was not given reasons for the decision.
Adams had been actively participating in the inquiry into President Cyril Ramaphosa, which is currently on hold following a Western Cape High Court ruling.
