The Full Story
Ethan Coetzee – the St Stithians Boys College alumnus – has been remembered with fondness following his passing. According to police, the 19-year-old is believed to have taken his own life at a Sabi game lodge, allegedly in the same room as Cameron Waldeck-Cooks, a Grade 11 St Sitithians Girls College learner, who was also found deceased.
Authorities have the young woman’s inquest into a murder investigation.
ETHAN COETZEE REMEMBERED WITH FONDNESS
On Facebook, the St Stithians College has been inundated with tributes in memory of Cameron Waldeck-Cooks and Ethan Coetzee.
A friend of Cameron’s, Gabriella de Gama, shared on her own account: “I will forever love and miss you, Cam. You were kind and the most beautiful person I have ever met. Was a blessing to have known you all these years”.
In tribute to an Old Stithian Association, several members within the community remembered Ethan Coetzee, too.
A St Andrews educator posted: “This is just too sad! You were just the kindest little boy in the JP, and you grew into an amazing young man. You will be missed”.
Others, who knew Ethan personally, shared: “What absolutely devastating news💔 Ethan was an incredible young lad, so full of life!”, and “Absolutely heartbreaking. Both my sons remember Ethan with fondness”.
WHAT WE KNOW ABOUT THE ST STITHIAN ALUMNUS
Unlike Cameron Waldeck-Cooks’ parents, Ethan Coetzee’s loved ones have not spoken publicly.
The 19-year-old matriculated from St Stithians Boys College in 2025.
In a tribute to the teen, the “Saints” remembered him for his sporting achievements, the most notable being his drafting into the first team rugby, where he earned his rugby colours.
Ethan was a national champion in the equestrian sport of Eventing and a respected senior student at Penryn House.
The tribute read: “Ethan possessed a natural warmth and charisma that drew people to him, forging strong friendships. He had the ability to instil confidence in others, offering encouragement when it was needed most and making those around him feel seen, valued, and supported”.
