The Full Story

Eskom has announced a major electricity supply interruption in the Cullinan area, affecting customers across several distribution lines. The power utility confirmed that Bigtree Moloto1 22kV customers with pole code BMM, Moloto 2 22kV customers with pole code 2BTM, and Sybrandskraal 22kV line customers with pole code BSK will all be affected.

The outage is scheduled for Thursday, 13 August, running from 7:00 to 20:00, a full 13 hours without electricity for the communities served by these lines. Eskom said the interruption is necessary to allow technical teams to conduct essential maintenance on the distribution network that keeps power flowing to homes and businesses in the region.

Safety warning issued to customers by Eskom

In its notice, Eskom urged residents to remain cautious throughout the outage period. The utility advised customers to treat all electrical appliances as live at all times during the power supply interruption, warning that power could be restored without prior notice once maintenance work is complete.

Eskom also included a disclaimer noting that circumstances beyond its control could affect the maintenance schedule. Should unforeseen issues arise, the planned work may not proceed as communicated, which could shift the restoration time. Also, the utility apologised in advance for any inconvenience the outage may cause to households, small businesses, and other customers who rely on a steady power supply.

How to report issues or get updates

Eskom has listed several channels customers can use to stay informed or report supply-related problems during the outage. These include the “MyEskom Customer” self-help app, available for download, and a WhatsApp line on 0860 037 566 for quick queries. Customers can also dial the USSD code 12037566# for updates or access the Alfred chatbot through Eskom’s official chatroom link for automated assistance.

Additionally, for billing-related queries, the utility directs customers to its online portal, csonline.Eskom.co.za, available Monday to Friday between 8:00 and 16:00. Those needing to report supply issues directly can call Eskom’s Contact Centre on 08600 37566, which operates 24 hours a day.

The notice was developed by Eskom’s Gauteng Communication and Stakeholder Management team as part of its ongoing effort to keep customers informed about planned maintenance work across the province.
