Arrests follow DJ Warras murder
Police made their first arrest 10 days after the murder.
Officers arrested Victor Mthethowakhe Majola on 26 December 2025.
They arrested Pacula just over a month later following an intelligence-driven investigation.
The Johannesburg High Court sentenced Pacula to an effective 25 years in prison on Friday, 7 August.
The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) said Pacula admitted that he shot and killed DJ Warras in exchange for R25 000.
He pleaded guilty to murder, unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition and contravening the Immigration Act.
Majola remains in custody while his case continues.
Gauteng Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Tommy Mthombeni welcomed the conviction.
He also praised the multidisciplinary team that worked on the case.
“This conviction demonstrates the importance of intelligence-led investigations and multidisciplinary collaboration,” Mthombeni said.
“I commend our investigators for their persistence in ensuring that the perpetrator was brought before the courts.”
The team included members of the Serious and Violent Crime Investigation unit, Provincial Investigation Unit, DPC Crime Detection and Tactical Response Team.
Mthombeni said the outcome sent a warning to those involved in violent crime.
“This outcome sends a clear message that Gauteng police will continue to pursue perpetrators of serious and violent crimes and ensure that they face the consequences of their actions,” he said.
