As World Breastfeeding Week comes to a close and Women's Day is observed, Childline is calling on employers and communities to do more to support breastfeeding mothers. The organisation is urging workplaces to offer flexible hours and private, safe spaces for milk expression.
With World Breastfeeding Week coming to a close, and Women's Day being observed tomorrow, The importance of supporting breastfeeding moms in the workplace and communities has come under focus
Childline is challenging employers to play a greater role by introducing flexible working hours for breastfeeding women
The organization's Adeshini Naicker says milk-expressing breaks should also be made available in an environment that is private and safe in the workplace.
She says in some instances many women face unbearable challenges when having to return home and continue with breastfeeding
"Support makes a big difference to a new mom, especially one that's breastfeeding. Fathers and families can encourage and help mothers at home. Communities need to create an environment where breastfeeding is accepted and supported rather than frowned upon."
