Prime Video Unveils $2 Billion Investment in Latin American Entertainment

The streaming giant aims to significantly boost its programming and local talent development across six Latin American countries.

In a groundbreaking move, Prime Video has announced a monumental investment of over $2 billion directed at enhancing entertainment value across Latin America. This three-year plan, spanning from 2027 to 2030, was unveiled at a showcase event held in Mexico City on August 20, 2026, aimed at transforming the streaming service's presence in the region, which is recognized as one of the fastest-growing markets for streaming content worldwide.

As part of its ambitious strategy, Prime Video intends to double its original local programming by 2030 and expand its live sports coverage significantly. The investment will focus on several key markets, including Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, Colombia, and Chile, enhancing their local creative infrastructure to foster storytelling talent. Additionally, the company will launch third-party streaming subscriptions, rentals, and purchases in new territories, such as Costa Rica and the Dominican Republic, without requiring a Prime membership.

Kelly Day, VP of International at Prime Video, articulated the vision behind the investment, stating, "What's happening in Latin America right now is extraordinary - the talent, the stories, the audiences. Today we're matching that energy with more than $2 billion... This region deserves this level of ambition and we're delivering it."

The investment in programming will also include more than 25 new titles planned for 2027, ranging from scripted series to films and reality formats. The live sports initiative encompasses expanded NBA coverage and a significant four-year deal that brings 38 home matches of the Mexico National Team to the streaming platform, starting in September.

In addition to content production, Prime Video places emphasis on the development of local talents. Initiatives such as "Brasil no Set" and collaborations with acting schools aim to train behind-the-camera crews and provide aspiring talent with professional opportunities, including scholarships for low-income students. Tomás Tejero, regional lead for Latin America & Canada at Prime Video, remarked, "We're not just producing programming in Latin America, we're investing in talent and creative partnerships that will help shape the future of Latin American storytelling."

Upcoming releases set to showcase this investment include the Argentine movie "Barreda" and the third season of "Betty La Fea: Más Fea Que Nunca," both of which are poised to premiere on August 28, 2026. With this strategy, Prime Video aims not just to entertain but to elevate the Latin American creative landscape, reflecting a commitment to the region's diverse narratives. As the market continues to flourish, all eyes will be on how this substantial investment impacts content creation and audience engagement in the following years.
