Lamiez Holworthy Shares Health Scare After Emergency Surgery

The DJ and media personality reflects on her life-threatening experience and the importance of prioritising health over work.

South African DJ and media personality Lamiez Holworthy recently opened up about a distressing health scare that required her to undergo emergency surgery on National Women's Day. In a heartfelt social media update, she recounted how she was rushed to the hospital after a burst ovarian cyst resulted in internal bleeding and a severe blood loss.

Lamiez shared that she suffers from recurring ovarian cysts and endometriosis. Initially, she had been advised by her doctor to undergo an operation before Women's Day, but she chose to postpone it to fulfil her work commitments. In her post, she reflected, "It's crazy how God chose National Women's Day to not only remind me that I am a woman but that I am human too and that my health should always come first."

The emergency unfolded when Lamiez was just seven minutes away from her event in Brits. She detailed the moment her situation escalated, saying, "Next thing I'm being told that I lost a lot of blood and that I'd need a blood transfusion, which freaked me out. I cried. I was so defeated and mostly upset at my body for allowing it to let this happen."

Aside from sharing her harrowing experience, Lamiez addressed the pervasive issue of cyberbullying, urging her followers to be mindful of mental health. She highlighted the significant impact of such bullying on individuals, particularly in an age where more people are affected by mental health issues. "Please tag your neighbourhood bully because now more than ever, the suicide rate has gone higher... we have too many broken little boys and girls walking around in adult bodies, and that is why cyberbullying has been normalised, and me, I'm tired!" she wrote emphatically.

Her surgery served as a pivotal reminder of the importance of self-care over professional obligations. She advised her female audience to be alert to abnormal signs in their bodies, stressing, "Ladies, if you experience abnormal periods or back pains, please visit your nearest doctor. I nearly lost my life because I ignored mine and chose to put work first."

Lamiez's experience has sparked conversations about women's health and the necessity to prioritise well-being amidst career pressures. Her story underscores the reality that health should always precede professional engagements, no matter the circumstances.

Through her story and bold call to action, she emphasizes an important lesson for her followers: listen to your body. This experience has not only affected her physical health but has resonated as a wake-up call urging others to prioritise their health too. In sharing her story, Lamiez Holworthy has made a significant impact, championing women's health and mental wellness on a platform that reaches many.
