Baby Shark Boy Debuts Music Career with Monsta X's JOOHONEY

After soaring to fame as a child star, Baby Shark Boy releases 'WAVE', a dance track featuring JOOHONEY from Monsta X, marking an exciting new chapter.

Baby Shark Boy, known for his iconic role in the viral sensation "Baby Shark Dance," has officially launched his music career with the release of his new single, "WAVE." The track features JOOHONEY from the popular K-pop group Monsta X and is a vibrant addendum to the nostalgia of his childhood fame.

Reflecting on his journey, Baby Shark Boy (real name Park Geon-roung) aims to showcase his growth in the music industry. "For me, Baby Shark Dance was like the first wave that began 10 years ago," he expressed in a statement. "I grew up riding that wave, and now I'm standing at a new starting point as Baby Shark Boy."

The single opens with the distinct melody of "Baby Shark," swiftly transforming into an energetic earworm of electropop blended skillfully with dance and trap sounds. This marks a significant step from simply being a viral sensation, allowing him to explore his identity as an adult musician.

The collaboration with JOOHONEY introduces a fresh hip-hop element to the track, enhancing its dynamic feel. JOOHONEY's rap vocals complement Baby Shark Boy's performance, providing a perfect blend of K-pop and nostalgic undertones. The choreography for the performance keeps the original dance moves but infuses them with a contemporary K-pop flair, making it accessible for a new generation while preserving the charm of the original dance video.

"WAVE" is not just a nostalgic trip; it's also a reflection of Baby Shark Boy's transformation. The Pinkfong Company, which produced the original beloved video, is also creating a behind-the-scenes documentary titled "WAVE: Becoming Baby Shark Boy," to further chronicle his artistic evolution. This documentary will detail his journey from a child performer in "Baby Shark Dance" to the artist behind this exciting new single.

Originally achieving Billboard chart success, "Baby Shark Dance" peaked at No. 32 on the Billboard Hot 100 in January 2019. The song has also surpassed 17.2 billion views on YouTube, making it the platform's most-viewed video ever. Following on the heels of this milestone, Baby Shark Boy hopes to connect his new work with fans old and new, remarking, "I hope people can see who I am today in a new way."

Notably, the release of "WAVE" comes after Baby Shark Boy made his surprise return to the franchise's content in 2025, marking the 10th anniversary of the original video. His return garnered over 22 million views, highlighting the continued love for the series and his enduring presence in the spotlight.
